In Annwn, Everything Is Fine…

It’s been a fertile couple of months for me, working hard to complete a number of images based around the theme of “In Annwn, Everything Is Fine…” You can sing it to the tune of the song sung by the lady in the radiator in David Lynch’s Eraserhead if you like, as it’s a definite nod to that. But what is Annwn, I hear you ask? Annwn is the fantastical Celtic otherworld / underworld of the Mabinoigion and folklore, a place of plenty where the strange is everyday, and magic runs through the land like water.

In my take on it, I’ve used that as the jumping off place to create these images, which pay homage to Annwn, and take in the landscape and people of Welsh history to create what I like to think are semi-formal portraits from another time and place, decaying with age and neglect. A world of both wonder and danger, a place where the landscape is as much a part of the story as anything. It’s a theme I will return to and continue to mine. Below are the most recent pieces I’ve completed for your viewing pleasure.
